Broiled Apples with Maple Syrup

Ingredients:
  • 2 TBLs (organic) butter softened
  • 4-6 medium firm (organic) apples
  • Juice of one (organic) lemon
  • 4 TBLs (organic) sugar
  • ½ cup pure (organic) maple syrup
  • Optional: 1 TBL Apple Brandy (“Pomme de Vie”, which is VT made)
  • 1 pint - Vanilla Ice Cream
Preparation:

Pre heat Broiler. Grease a cookie sheet (with sides) or shallow baking pan with butter. Set aside.

Peel, core and cut apples into fat ¼ inch thick slices. Evenly sprinkle the lemon juice and only 2 TBLs of sugar over the apples.

Place the apples in a single layer on the prepared pan and broil about 6 inches from the heat, until apples are
golden, about 7 to 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle the remaining 2 TBLs sugar evenly over the apples. Return to the oven and continue to broil until the edges just begin to darken or slightly char.

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan bring the maple syrup to a boil over medium-high heat. Optional: ;Add the 1 TBL of “Pomme de Vie” (the apple brandy) and cook for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.

Spoon hot apples and sauce over ice cream and serve immediately.
